Above Ground Storage Tank Garden Nursery Landscaping Guide
Above Ground Storage Tank To Store All Your Rain Water
By Rodger G Allenby
Above ground storage tank is needed to hold your reserves of
water to meet household requirements and to feed animals and plants
you may have on your property.
The easy maintenance of above ground storage tank is another
advantage. You can look at the tank and see if there is any rust
or leakage or any damage to the structure.
If the tank is below ground, you may have dig up the tank to
look for structural damage and then the amount of work required
and associated costs can be prohibitive.
This is part of rural living. You can breathe the mountain air
and watch the fish swim in crystal clear waters. You need to store
water to meet your family requirements.
The story is different if you live in the city. All you need
to do is turn on the tap and the water flows. It’s not quite as
simple if you live in a rural area.
Depending on where you live and how far from a water source you
are, you may have to consider an above ground storage tank to
hold your water.
Water is essential to our needs
Water is obviously essential to life. We need it to quench our
thirst, to wash our clothes and to keep ourselves clean. Without
water, you’re going to run into problems fairly quickly, so ensuring
that you have a substantial fresh supply is essential.
When you decide to move to a rural area you should consult with
either a contractor or a home inspector regarding where exactly
your water is coming from.
In many older homes, the water supply is on site and it’s stored
in a tank that is found below the ground. Although this can work
great, it also comes with a whole host of problems, the first
being the threat of contamination.
Keeping your water under the ground gives way to a better chance
that something will go wrong before you’ll even notice it.
Above Ground Storage Tank - easy maintenance
If the tank rusts or corrodes there is a risk that dirt will
leak into the tank, ruining the water supply. With an above ground
storage tank, that risk is almost non-existent since you can keep
a very close eye on the condition of the tank.
Another benefit with a tank that isn’t hidden beneath the earth
is that when maintenance or repairs are needed, they can be done
pretty effortlessly.
You’re not going to need to call the neighbors over for a hole
digging party, since you can work on the above ground storage
tank without touching the soil. In fact, many people who own an
above ground storage tank perform routine maintenance themselves.
Size of tank to meet your requirements
The size of the tank you’re going to purchase is dependent on
a few factors. First and foremost is, how much water is your family
going to be using?
If you have a house full of teenage girls, the amount of water
needed just for showers is going to require a larger above ground
storage tank.
The same can be said for a family that loves to garden, and needs
a source of water to keep the plants hydrated, a smaller above
ground storage tank will run dry fairly quickly.
You may also require an ability to feed animals like household
pets and small groups of birds and animals you keep on your property.
All these have a thirst for water.
Transporting water
How often you want to transport your water should also be factored
in. Surely going to the water facility once a day isn’t what you
have in mind.
Think about a larger above ground storage tank as a perfect storage
facility that will save you from making the trip back and forth
to fetch a tank of water less frequent. Bring savings on on petrol
and transport costs.
Most people these days, buy large above ground storage tanks
so that they can use the water over a longer period of time and
allow for feeding of animals, apart from meeting home requirements.
My small flock of sheep get their water from a dedicated above
ground water storage tank that never seems to run out of water.
It seems there is just enough rain to keep the water fresh in
the tank.
I have another above ground storage tank for the household, to
cover all household needs.
