Asphalt Paving For Your Driveway
By Joel F Morningstar
Asphalt paving is an appealing option when looking to arrange
for the installation of a new driveway or replace your current
driveway.
You may have a concrete driveway and have noticed a few cracks
and looks like its almost worn out. So what do you do? Replace
with another concrete driveway?
A lot of people are now taking the long term option of an asphalt
driveway. You can consider the long term use of a family with
the number of cars increasing as the children grow older and start
driving their own cars.
The condition of the driveway is another factor to consider when
purchasing a new home.
Small Details
When you purchase a new home there are so many small details
that need attending to. In addition to worrying about the landscaping
and building a fence, you’ll probably also have to give some thought
to a driveway.
Most home builders want little to do with the development of
your driveway so it’s up to you to decide what will work best.
Concrete Driveway
Concrete has long been the popular choice for residential driveways
but it has its drawbacks. Notably if you live in a place where
the climate changes with the seasons, you risk having the concrete
crack or chip.
Asphalt paving is actually fast becoming a more frequent choice
and if you haven’t considered it before, it might be time to start
thinking about it.

A driveway is a really large investment. Unless you are planning
on driving your car over dirt or sand forever, you are going to
need something more permanent.
Asphalt Paving
With asphalt paving as the foundation you are not only going
to enjoy the aesthetics of the driveway, but it’s also going to
stand the test of time.
Snow, rain and even the sun can play havoc on your driveway.
If it’s made out of concrete, it will likely buckle after several
years of temperature changes. With asphalt paving in place, that
is less likely to happen. Asphalt paving has much more give to
it; it can expand and contract with the heat and the moisture.
If you’ve ever driven down a road made from asphalt paving you
will probably have noticed how much smoother it is than its concrete
counterparts.
Never Install A Driveway Yourself
Unless you work for a paving company you should never attempt
to install a driveway yourself.
Some folks who deem themselves as handymen have tried to pour
their own concrete driveways using a wheelbarrow and a few bags
of cement. The results are almost always disastrous.
Asphalt Paving Quotes
If you are considering an asphalt driveway, your first job is
going to be getting a few quotes. Calling the local asphalt paving
company is a great place to start. If they don’t handle residential
jobs themselves they will likely be able to direct you to a company
that does.
In fact, many asphalt paving companies have different divisions.
One division focuses on the large commercial jobs, while the other
tackles all the residential jobs of paving driveways or sidewalks.
Once you’ve gotten a few quotes it’s time to choose the company.
You should speak with them about how to care for the driveway
in addition to the steps you need to take while the asphalt paving
is drying.
After they’ve completed the job you’ll be able to enjoy your
new driveway for many years to come.
With more members of the family growing older and start to drive
their own cars, an asphalt driveway will get more and more use.
Security For Your Car
Some people have an asphalt driveway starting from the gate all
the way up to the garage, and the garage may be towards the back
of the house. This is usually for security reasons. They like
to make it as difficult as possible for someone to steal their
car.
If the car is left in the front of the driveway, it makes it
easy for thieves to steal your car. If you park the car out the
back in the garage, then it makes the car less visible and more
difficult to steal.
Too much of a hassle for thieves to walk up to the garage and
be seen walking up the asphalt paving.
