Awnings Garden Nursery Landscaping Guide

Awnings Weather Shields

By Joel F Mornigstar

Substantial awnings that are installed over a deck or patio area can be one of the easiest and best ways to expand the usable living area of your home. With a patio awning installed, sunny and hot zones around your home can be completely transformed into wonderful places where you and your family can relax and entertain in the shade.

There are many families that even go so far as to call these spaces that are protected by a sun awning their second living room. Installing a patio awning canopy allows you to enjoy the outdoor areas of your property even on blistering hot days, without having to deal with wearing sunglasses while trying to communicate and mingle with friends or family.

Protect Against Extreme Heat And Rainy Weather With Patio Awnings

You can also relax and not have to be constantly squinting to keep the bright rays of the sun out of your eyes. Even if you do not happen to reside in an area that is sunny all the time, you can still get a lot of value from awnings that are installed over a patio area or deck.

A patio awning can also come in very handy for those times when the weather is stormy and threatens rain. If you have an outside barbecue party planned, then you can still proceed, knowing that all of your cooking gear, as well as the guests, will be shielded from the rain.

Furnishings And Patio Accessories

Most people think of their patio, which is protected and shaded by home awnings, as just another room in the house. Often, people will spend a good deal of money on the furnishings and patio accessories to make it as comfortable and inviting as possible. In some parts of the country people will leave their patio doors open as much as possible, allowing for an easy flow from the interior rooms of the house right to the out of doors.

With these types of patio awnings and the living area they can provide, you can wander out through the patio door at any time and sit and relax and enjoy the area. The only thing that is not as controlled in these patio living spaces is the temperature and the bugs. However, those factors can also be adjusted and controlled to a degree by the use of fans and patio heaters, or by adding a canopies screen enclosure.

If you live in an area of the country where you don’t have to worry about extreme weather conditions, such as hurricanes and other high wind events, then you can leave the patio awnings in place permanently so that you can enjoy the benefits all year long.

Retractable Awning To Prevent Damage

However, if you do live in areas where you can expect harsh weather conditions on a regular basis, then it is better to install a retractable awning so that it can be closed up to avoid damage to the awning itself, or to your home.

There are a number of different types and styles of awnings that you can choose from to protect areas of your home and provide much appreciated outdoor living areas. There are companies in virtually all areas of the country, so find an awning company that specializes in installing these various types of home awning systems, as well as one that can help you to choose the right style for your particular situation.

Little Known Awnings Facts....

How can I clean my awning?
The best way to clean your awning is to use water and a good sponge. Normally just a water bath once a week is enough to keep you awning looking new.

If mold or mildew spots start to appear or there is significant dirt and debris you can make a solution of household detergent and a tiny part of bleach to remove any stains or spots. Use a soft bristled brush to sweep away the debris and loose dirt and then simply use a little elbow grease to get rid of the remaining dirt and spots.
