Band Saws Garden Nursery Landscaping Guide

Band Saws For Trained Professionals

By Joel F Morningstar

A band saw is used in wood working and metal working industries, as well as others. These power saws are able to produce irregular cuts as well as straight ones. Band saws can also cut objects into curved shapes.

The saws band is a flexible metal that has teeth running along one of the edges. While this type of saw is very useful in many industries, it is also one of the most dangerous to use.

Automatic And Manual Band Saws

A specific type of application will call for a specific type of band saw. A metal band saw is used primarily to cut metal, but also may be used to cut wood. These cutting saws may be manually operated or they can be fully automatic.

The stone cutting band saw uses the saws blades to cut away at large pieces of stone and is primarily used in the mining industry. Another type of band saw that is used commonly is the meat band saw. These typically use heat treated teeth that are made of stainless steel to cut the meat.

Bulky Saws Are Not Normally Found In The Home

Band saws are expensive pieces of equipment, which is one reason why they are not items normally used by the do-it-yourself individual. Another reason is that these cutting saws are rather bulky, for most types it would take more than one person to move and set up the saw.

Machine shops, commercial butcher shops and mining quarries are three places in which a band saw can be frequently found. Anyone who uses this piece of equipment, no matter the industry, needs to review their options and be properly trained.

If the operator is careless or simply does not have the proper knowledge and training to run a band saw, then it is possible for them to seriously hurt themselves or others.

Used By Trained Professionals

No matter the application that band saws are being used for, the foremost consideration should be safety. Bandsaws are bulky and need to be operated by those who have been trained in how to use them, as the saws blades can cause injury or even death.

For these reasons, it is not typical to see a band saw used in woodworking shops or other types of workshops. This piece of equipment is normally used by professionals.
