Beekeeping Supplies To Maintain Your Bees
By Rodger G Allenby
For the person looking to start a home-based business with a
minimum of initial cost outlay, keeping bees is where you need
to review your options. Beekeeping supplies to get started are
very few; you just need a small number of basics.
Yet how do you differentiate between the essentials and what
can be done without? You don’t need to consult Beekeeping For
Dummies. Let’s take a look at what you will need to start a successful
business with the minimal amount of beekeeper supplies.
Finding The Right Honey Bee Hives
The most important equipment to begin with are the honey bee
hives. Consider what type of hives you want to get. The hive is
the central tool to your beekeeping business, and you must take
the time to educate yourself and find the right hive for the type
of beekeeping you want to do, the area you live in and your general
needs.
After looking at the different types and getting advice from
local beekeepers on what the best hive is for your area, and once
you have chosen the hive you want, then is the time to continue
looking for more equipment.
Easier To Start Beekeeping By Buying An Existing Colony
The bees are a part of your supplies beekeeping list, and at
this point you will need to decide on whether or not to buy a
bee colony, a nucleus or whether you plan on harvesting a swarm.
Though it may be more expensive, it is much easier to buy them
since it can be a bit dangerous and risky to harvest them.
The next essential bee supply item you will need is a smoker.
A smoker is what allows you to check the hive without getting
stung. It only takes a puff or two of smoke to calm the bees and
will facilitate a check of the hive while they are still disoriented.
The smoker is part of the necessary honey beekeeping supplies
that help you manage the hive safely. If you don’t use a smoker,
you run the risk of being stung.
A Good Bee Suit With A Bee Hat Protects You From Bee Stings
Investing in a good bee suit may not seem like such a necessary
piece of equipment, given that they can be expensive. It does
pay for itself though, especially when it keeps you from being
stung.
A bee suit keeps the bees from crawling into your clothes and
hair. When the smoke wears off and they have entangled themselves
in your clothing or hair, you will probably get stung.
A bee hat has a protective veil attached to it and protects your
face and hair. Sometimes a bee suit will come with a hat, but
it’s not guaranteed, so you may have to buy it separately. A bee
hat and veil protect your most sensitive areas; your neck, face
and head.
Better To Buy Your Equipment And Use It When Required
There you have it; the basic honey beekeeping supplies you need
to start your beekeeping business. Of course some of the items
are not as necessary as other items. An example would be that
you can go without the wrist and ankle straps for awhile if you
wear clothing that has elastic bands.
You also don’t need the bee brush if you are extra careful with
your clothing. It is a good idea though to get all the basic equipment
and use it when necessary.

Little Known Honey Bees Facts....
How do honey bees differ from regular bees?
Regular bees such as wasps and hornets do
have a hive system but do not produce honey or if they do produce
honey it is not considered to be a true "honey bee."
That is something that is specific to the
honey bee. But even within the whole "honey bee" classification
there are seven different species and forty-four subspecies.
Many times when a person comes into close
contact with a honey bee, provided it is not the Africanized honey
bee, and is stung, the bee dies because the stinger is ripped
away from its thorax. With wasps and other bees this is not always
the case.
Although all bees do provide pollination
of plants, the honey bee is by far the largest pollinator. Their
hive also tends to be bigger than that of any other genus of bee.
