Best Dog Collar Fits Most Comfortably For Your Pet
By Rodger G Allenby
When you get a new puppy or dog, you want to keep it safe by
choosing a sturdy collar that fits the breed and your lifestyle.
The best dog collar is the one that fits your dog comfortably
and will keep both them and the public safe.
Your dog trainer or veterinarian can recommend a collar type,
but it may be some time before they get back to you with an answer.
The Buckle Collar
First up, there is the versatile buckle collar. The buckle collar
is the most popular of the dog collars and includes a ring around
a belt so that you can attach dog ID tags.
You can also use the buckle collar to attach a copy of the dog
license or vaccination verification. If you don’t want to use
the standard metal tags, then a tag pouch in leather is also available
for these types of collars.
The Muzzle Collar For Larger Dogs
Next up is the muzzle collar. These large dog collars are a mesh
cover or cup-like contraption that fits over your dog’s nose and
mouth and attaches to your pet’s head with straps that go around
behind the animal’s ears.
There is also a dog collar called the head collar. The head collar
is very similar to the muzzle collar, but has some notable differences.
It keeps your pet’s head fixed and does not allow the animal to
pull against the pressure you exert on the neck.
Getting Your Pet To Train And Behave Properly
Of course there is a wide range of other types of collars as
well. Besides dog training collars, the best dog collar can serve
as a useful handling tool for your pet around the house, if your
dog is very large.
It’s true that keeping a collar on your pet will soon develop
into a normal habit, and they will get used to wearing it in no
time. Particularly useful when your dog decides not to follow
a command or jumps up on guests, a collar can be used to train
your pet to behave appropriately.
Occasionally used for an extremely disobedient or unruly dog,
the prong and pinch collar is not considered very humane. This
collar covers your dog’s entire neck from all sides and it works
by tightening as you pull the leash, causing the metal prongs,
which are blunt, to pinch into your dog’s neck.
Collar Should Suit Size And Personality Of Your Dog
Puting utility aside, you shouldn’t choose a collar that
doesn’t suit your dog’s size and personality. A poodle
is going to look ridiculous in one of those heavy chain collars,
but will look just adorable in a ribbon and bow collar.
Also, the best dog collar will fit properly. Too tight or too
loose collars can cause discomfort for your pet as well as open
the possibility that your dog can break free from the collar and/or
dog leash and run away.

Little Known Facts About Dog Collars....
Why are dog collars used?
Dog collars are used to help train dogs and
to help keep them where they need to be. When a dog collar is
used to train it can be worn around the dog’s neck or in a shape
that fits its muzzle so you can train it to walk beside you or
learn various commands such as "come" or "heel." Collars can also
be ornamental and be used to pamper your precious pooch.
You can buy collars that have decorative
rhinestones and even have the dog’s name engraved on it. A dog
collar is also the preferred method of keeping important information
with your dog such as its address and whether or not it is up
to date on important shots such as the rabies vaccination.
You may also need to have a license to
own the dog in certain areas so a dog tag that contains that information
would be vital and need to be kept attached to the collar.
