Bird Baths Add To The Beauty Of The Back Yard
By Rodger G Allenby
Bird baths are quite rare in suburban backyards these days. The
bird baths can be quite expensive and require a little care to
ensure no mosquitoes take up residence during the peak summer.
With a bird bath in the back yard, you can watch the birds flying
towards the edge of the bird bath and then splash in the water,
they seem to be enjoying themselves. Especially in the summer
heat, it helps them cool down and probably helps with their thirst.
The birds and the bird bath can help liven up a backyard.
There are many great things that can liven up the backyard, and
some love to have things just to draw in birds. My mother has
a large collection of bird feeders, and special feeders made just
for hummingbirds.
She loves them, and they do tend to draw a larger number of birds
to her yard so that she can enjoy them while they are there. She
can sit in her windows for hours and watch them on some days,
but she usually does not have the time.
One thing she talks about wanting is some new bird baths.
She never asked for bird baths, but I guess she has decided it
is time to get some. She said she wants some for the front and
the back of the house. I always thought that these were something
that were only for decoration, but she tells me that the birds
really do get into them.
Bird Baths Can Be Expensive
Bird baths have been around for a long time, and they do have
a hefty price tag on them in many cases. This is because of how
they are made and what they are made of when they are made right.
Quality Bird Baths Can Be Heavy
You can find these in places that have other garden and outdoor
supplies. The good bird baths are rather heavy, and are probably
much heavier than they look upon inspection.
If you want to go get one but you aren’t sure you can lift it,
make sure you take someone with you, or have a dolly to move it
around. Most stores will help you get bird baths to your car,
but they won’t be able to help you once you get home.
They certainly are worth the price if you can afford them, even
if the birds pass them up. Just make sure the water does not become
a haven for mosquitoes.
The mosquitoes would only appear during the peak of summer, so
just keep an eye out for them.
I have now decided to install a couple of solid heavy bird baths,
one in the front yard and one in the backyard, near the trees
where there are number of birds. I have seen a lot of the local
birds come to the water and enjoy a little splash.
It is so peaceful and serene, when you can see the birds enjoy
themselves in the water.
