Cabinet Doors And Refacing Your Kitchen
By Joel F Morningstar
Most homeowners today will agree, that it is the kitchen that
is the nerve center and the very heart of the family home. As
a result, the kitchen cabinets and the appliances end up getting
a great deal of wear and tear and can start making the kitchen
look very out of date. In fact, it is usually the kitchen cabinet
doors that start looking worn, dingy and tired simply because
they get so much use on a daily basis.
Each and every kitchen cabinet door will end up taking on the
full force of the extremes in heat, the airborne grease particles,
the dust and dirt, the food residue, the stains, and the bangs
and gouges from various kitchen implements, not to mention thousands
of fingerprints and hand prints that build up over time.
Replacing Old Worn Out Cabinet Doors
All of these factors combine to create an overall condition that
certainly takes its toll on the look of the cabinets, which can
often become grungy, dirty-looking and quite unappealing in a
setting where people are preparing their meals.
There usually comes a point when the kitchen cabinet doors in
a home simply cannot be cleaned up well enough to get them looking
good anymore and when this time comes something needs to be done.
One of the options for dealing with this is to take off each old,
worn door and replace it with a cabinet door that is new or refinished,
a project that can instantly revamp the whole look of the kitchen.
A Huge Array Of Kitchen Cabinet Door Styles
At the same time, this approach can be fairly expensive, depending
on the type of new doors that are chosen. There is now a huge
array of kitchen cabinet door styles and designs that people can
choose from, ranging from very traditional styles to the latest
in modern kitchen cabinet design. Most of the time, people are
more constrained by their budget than they are by the number of
choices they have.
There are kitchen cabinet doors that can reflect virtually any
taste and sense of style, blending right into the rest of the
decor of the home. One such option is wood kitchen cabinets. At
the same time, there are many styles that are very clean, simple
and functional. Those tend to be less expensive than the more
decorative options.
Refacing Kitchen Cabinet Doors
On the far end of the scale, people can review their options
and choose to have custom kitchen cabinets made that will suit
them to a "T" and that can be tailored to accommodate
oversized appliances. They can even include custom designed storage
cabinets that will hold most of the appliances that are normally
seen on the countertops in many kitchens, yet are housed in specialty
cabinets in most gourmet kitchens.
One of the most popular alternatives to tearing out, throwing
away and replacing the kitchen cabinet doors is to essentially
recycle them. This is done through a process called kitchen cabinet
refacing, in which the door is reused and the face of the cabinet
door is refaced. This is not only a less expensive way to upgrade
the look of the kitchen, but it is also a very green approach
because the existing doors are not wasted.

Little Known Facts About Kitchen Cabinets....
Do you have to pay for professional installation?
Whether or not you pay for professional installation
depends on your level of craftsmanship. If you are handy with
tools and woodworking then you may be able to install the kitchen
cabinets yourself.
It will take time to do so though. Many
people simply do not have the tools, time or knowledge needed
to install their own cabinets in the kitchen.
They need to have professionals install
the cabinet for them. It will cost you money if you elect to have
professional installation but it may be well worth the cost. Many
cabinet dealers will have people on site that can do the installation
for an additional cost.
If you order the cabinets from a whole
sale company you may need to hire local contractors and workers
to put the cabinets in for you.
