Ceiling Fan Suiting Your Home Style

By Joel F Mornigstar

Mounted paddles or blades that circulate cooling air by continuously rotating are called ceiling fans and they originally hit the United States in the 1870s. Of course the original ceiling fan did not run on electricity; instead, it was operated by using a series of belts driven by a steady stream of water that would then turn the paddles of the fan.

Since several could be operated at the same time, they became increasingly popular in restaurants, offices and stores, with some still in existence today. Ceiling fans with water driven components were constantly undergoing changes and improvements, such as adapting a motor that was originally engineered by Philip Diehl for use in sewing machines.

Common Modern Day Ceiling Fans

The Diehl Electric Fan actually operated much like the common modern day ceiling fans, with each having its own motor that eliminated the need for the belt systems that were both bulky and costly.

Naturally, with the popularity that went along with the indoor ceiling fan there was heavy competition with everyone trying to outdo Diehl’s original setup. However, he continued to work on the ceiling fan and making improvements, such as developing ceiling fan light kits that served to replace any lighting fixtures that had to be removed during the installation of the fan.

A Fashionable Accessory In Your Home

Fortunately, ceiling fans have continued to evolve throughout the years. Because of this, many different makes and models are now available. They run the gamut from strictly functional or whimsical, to a fashionable accessory, both simple and complex in design.

There are many companies that produce excellent products, such as the Casablanca Fan Company, Hunter, Hampton Bay and Fanimation, to name a few. The Fanimation ceiling fans have become very popular due to their innovative designs, ensuring that you will find something that suits your style and taste.

Fanimation Ceiling Fan Is Customizable

If you are like most people, then you appreciate practicality. However, you also want something pleasing and unique to look at. That is one reason why a Fanimation ceiling fan is so popular. They have a huge selection of finishes, fan blades and lighting, and they are even customizable.

If you are looking for a ceiling fan that will complement a tropical theme, then be sure to check out the Islander fan with its palm leaf style blades. For a unique visual effect there are two fans that really stand out, one is the Palisade that has a vertical rotation design and the other is the Centaurus, which has unusual bent wood blades that will surely be a topic of conversation for everyone who comes to visit.

Little Known Ceiling Fan Facts....

Can a ceiling fan be used in any room?
Yes and no. A ceiling fan does have to have a certain amount of clearance if you do not want to hit your head. They do make ceiling fans that are designed for low ceilings. Unless you have a monstrous bathroom, you are probably not going to have one in there. But many people are adding ceiling fans to kitchens, dining rooms and even outside on their porches.

Basically anywhere you want to be able to circulate air, ceiling fans can go. The one reminder of placing ceiling fans is to be aware of where the blades are. If the ceiling is low and you hit the blades every time you raise your arms…it might not be the best suited place for a fan. Most ceiling fans do not have a lot of power, so striking the blades with your hands or arms will not hurt you but it might hurt the fan.
