Deck Ideas Garden Nursery Landscaping Guide
Deck Ideas Are Best Gained With Experience
By Joel F Morningstar
Deck ideas are everywhere. You can look at magazines, landscaping
websites and television programs to see the latest and best available
ideas.
My best deck ideas come from experience. It seems like every
once in a while I want to change my deck. Give it a different
look. But the changes I want to apply, will always be in harmony
with the rest of the house and yard.
Otherwise I will have to change the look of the yard and the
house. I don’t have the time to knock down parts of the house
and redesign the landscape in the yard, just to make it blend
with my deck ideas.
Redoing My Deck
I have been into remodeling my home for a long time, but nothing
gives me more pleasure than redoing my deck. You see, when you
are working on your home, you are limited by all kinds of considerations.
It already has basic dimensions, uniform ceiling height, and
a certain feel to it. If you make drastic changes to one part
of your house, you are likely to throw off the harmony of the
whole.
Deck ideas, by contrast, can be much more free-form and free-flowing.
If you want to build a deck, you can do anything that your heart
desires. It functions separately from the house, so you are free
to use your creativity!
Usually, I spend a lot of time out in the yard before deciding
which deck design ideas to implement. I have redesigned my deck
three times now, and each time I have used different patio ideas.
Deck Ideas In Harmony With Your Yard
You might think that decks only come in a few forms, but you
are wrong. There are all kinds of deck ideas, from the most traditional
to the most outlandish. My favorite deck ideas are the ones that
harmonize with the yard.
I have lots of trees, providing a combination of sunshine and
shade in the summer. I shy away from traditional deck ideas that
looks very square, and instead, implement a more rounded and organic
form.
I use dark varnish, and paints on the railing to make my deck
look like it is part of a forest.
Festive Environment
Of course, in the past I’ve used deck ideas that look almost
completely opposite from the current one. I decided that, since
I was going to often have barbecues with lively, festive parties
and music, my deck ideas should create a festive environment.
I employed some of the most outlandish patio designs that you
have ever seen. My back porch was multicolored, shaded by a bamboo
screen, and painted with murals! I’ve never seen anyone use deck
ideas like this before. I believe that my deck was truly an original!
It can be a mistake to do something too drastic, when you have
not worked on a major home project before.
This is why I didn’t stick with any of my previous deck ideas.
I knew something about building, and have done some light work
in my house, but nothing could prepare me for how much work deck
ideas really took.
Learn From Experience, Gain From Knowledge
Every time I remodel my deck, I gain ideas on what to do the
next time. The experience of applying my ideas, has given me a
lot of knowledge to apply the next time I redo my deck.
There is a lot of manual labour to get the timber, the rails,
the paint. Then you will have to think about how it will all gel
together.
It is best to start off with a blank sheet of paper. Make a drawing
of what you want the deck to look like, then work on the dimensions.
With all this information in hand, go to the store and buy good
quality timber, paint, nails and tools to last in the outdoor
conditions.
Once you have quality nails, paint, timber and tools, you are
ready to apply your best deck ideas.
