Designer Dog Bed With A Range Of Styles

By Rodger G Allenby

Most people think of a designer dog bed as the sort of thing that goes a little "out there," where one dog might appear to sleep in the back seat of a luxury car while another would nap in a hammock held up by little palm trees.

That sort of eccentricity in dog beds does exist in some cases, of course, while other custom dog beds spice things up by adding a bit of outrageous style to the basic design of the bed. But believe it or not, even eco-friendly or therapeutic beds fall into the "designer" category, because they go beyond the run of the mill.

Round Tent Beds Decorated With Jewels

Along with those beds that lean toward streamlined European elegance, you’ll also find the designer dog bed that leans more toward the exotic. For example, this would include the type of bed that has a bit of an eastern flair.

You can review your options and see examples of this at Glamour Dog (www.glamourdog.com), with luxury dog beds that call to mind a Sultan’s tent or a yurt on the Caucasian Steppes. These are round tent beds, often decorated with jewels or fur, that have canopied roofs that rise to a spire in the center. Although, if it comes with flaps that hang down from the edge of the roof, it starts resembling a circus tent.

Memory Foam Beds Are Orthopedic Beds

But a designer bed for your pooch isn’t automatically a bed that screams "luxury" at you. There can be special designs that concentrate on other things as well. Some beds have a much more "down home" feel to them, made to resemble country style, four-poster beds or big, puffy arm chairs.

Others go a more eccentric route, so you end up with your dog sleeping in a car, a wicker basket or a gazebo. And don’t forget that memory foam beds, which are more orthopedic dog beds than anything else, are also considered designer beds because they add something special to the normal design.

Going Beyond The Usual Standards

Remember that functionality is sometimes what a designer dog bed is all about, rather than form. This means that you might consider plain rectangle dog beds with sustainable hemp covers and cushions made from recycled plastic bottles to be just as much designer beds as four-poster beds with canopies.

The common denominator among all beds of special design is that they go a little beyond the usual standards and create something different, whether that involves visual effect or function.

Orthopedic beds used for dogs that have joint problems are probably going to cost you more than a bed bought at Petco or Wal-Mart. But whatever type of bed you wind up buying you need to have as much information as possible.
