Ceiling Fan Controls On Your Wall
By Joel F Mornigstar
In order to save energy and money, many people install a ceiling
fan. In doing so, most are likely aware that there are different
accessories available for the fans. Normally, when you think about
accessories you might think of installing lights if none are included
in the design of your fan.
Yet, they are not the only fan accessories available. You may
not even think that fan controls are an accessory. However, thanks
to modern technology there is more to it than just pulling a string
or flipping a switch. You do have different options when deciding
how you want to control your ceiling fan.
Convenient Controls For Your Ceiling Fan
Just as it is with lighting and light kits, convenient ceiling
fan controls enhance the overall experience of owning a ceiling
fan. Fans with convenient controls offer many more options to
the consumer, which increases the likelihood that they will purchase
the fan and return to the same manufacturer if they need more
fans in the future.
When virtually any fan is sold to a consumer it comes with a
pull chain or other type of fan controls. The pull chain is the
most common type of control and it works on a sequential switch
system of low, medium and high (1-2-3).
A Light And A Fan
The ones that come with ceiling fan light kits require two separate
controls, one for the fan and one for the light. If the light
came with the fan, then it normally includes the 2 pull chains,
but if it is purchased separately the kit should include an additional
chain.
Pull chains are not the only type of control available for your
ceiling fan, although they are the most common. When you install
a ceiling fan you may have the option of "quiet control"
which operates the fan at either three or four speeds.
Whereas normally the speed could be adjusted to any speed within
the motors RPM range but they are not as quiet. There are also
ceiling fans with remote control options.
Wall Mounted Fan Controls
If you want a separate control for the ceiling fan lights and
the fan itself, then you may want to consider installing a wall
control. Fan controls are wall mounted at a convenient place in
the room where you can add dual controls, if you also want to
operate the light from the same location.
You can opt to have two wires, enabling you to operate the fan
and light independently of one another. It is recommended that
you get a fan control of at least 5 amps if you plan on using
more than one fan in the room.

Little Known Ceiling Fan Facts....
What type of materials can a ceiling fan be made from?
The beauty of a ceiling fan is that it can
be made from virtually anything. You have the classic wooden ceiling
fans with the faux wood blades. You can also choose ceiling fans
that are all metal and have a burnished finished applied to give
it an aged effect.
You can also buy ceiling fans that are
ecologically friendly. The wood can be made of bamboo or banana
leaf. The blades, themselves, can be made of woven bamboo mats.
It gives a very earthy appeal to any room.
