Fisheries Garden Nursery Landscaping Guide
Fisheries Grow Fish
By Rodger G Allenby
Fisheries raise fish for sale to the public, and the government
and most will only sell their fish in large quantities. While
the fish are priced relatively low, purchasing large quantities
of fish can become a very expensive venture. Starting a fish farm
of your own is not difficult to do at all.
Most small fish farms raise fish for pond stocking or aquarium
sales. The cost of this startup is very inexpensive. All you will
need, is a very large aquarium and the accessories that go along
with it, in addition to several types of breeding fishes.
Start Your Own Micro Enterprise
In many instances, the Government offers grants for this type
of business. Be sure that you contact the Fish and Wildlife department
in your State, to review your options and find out the details
and how to apply for a grant to start a micro-enterprise, if such
a grant exists.
Ask if you are eligible under the criteria mentioned therein.
Obtaining a grant would further encourage you in your business,
as these funds need not be repaid, so you would be ahead financially
from the start. The good news is that breeding a fish takes little
effort from you; the work is done by a fish.
Begin With Cheaper Varieties To Gain Experience
All you have to do is get a few, high priced exotic fishes and
breed them according to instructions that are readily available
in any number of places. You could always start with a fish that
is of a cheaper variety and as you gather confidence about your
abilities in taking care of them, you could try some of the more
expensive varieties.
Running fisheries is more than just raising fish. You must also
know how to rotate your breeding stock and ensure that you move
the fish out of your tanks in a timely manner. The worst thing
that could happen is for a fish to remain in your tank so long
that it dies there.
There is no profit in this method of operation. You must know
how to properly market your fish to optimize your profits. There
are many opportunities to sell exotic fish, including pet expos
and community programs that are geared toward children.
Require Technical Knowledge About Breeding Fish
It is important that you learn everything you can about the exotic
fish you are breeding. This would include any background information
and stories that you can find.
Operating fisheries requires that you have some technical knowledge
about breeding fish, but interesting stories and background information
will provide you with a unique marketing tool that will help you
to be successful.
