Flower and Garden - To Produce Your Own Fresh Flowers, Fruit And Vegetables
By Julia Gloss
Flower and garden can be a special area around the home, to grow
your own fresh flowers, fruit and vegetables and meet all your
family requirements.
You need some flowers for Mothers Day? Give your mum a couple
of pots of flowers and she will find it more rewarding and therapeutic,
than buying cut flowers from the florist. Your flowers could last
in their pots for years, while cut flowers may last a day or two.
Its a no contest, when you compare what you can produce in your
own flower and garden and what you buy at the florist or fruit
market.
Besides, everything that is in your flower and garden area, is
your reward for all the work you do slaving away at your garden.
Garden Fresh
You can feed your family fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables from
your garden. You need some herbs for your cooking? Just go and
pick it from the garden and cook it today. Need some peppers?
There is nothing like garden fresh.
Your garden will feed your family and you need never buy old
vegetables from the supermarket again, just pick all your fresh
fruit and vegetables from your garden.
It wasn’t always like this. When I first started gardening, I
had to learn through trial and error. Believe me, there were a
lot of trials.
At first, I was what you would call an armchair gardener. It’s
not that I didn’t have the drive. When I lived in my parents house
during my teenage years, I used to have a flower and garden area
that would rock your world.
I grew some of the freshest tomatoes and some of the most beautiful
daisies that you have ever seen. It’s just that, living in a small
New York City apartment, I had almost no room at all for my possessions.
Growing anything was unthinkable.
Everything changed when I moved to San Francisco. I went to a
SF flower and garden show, and was blown away by what I saw. You
see, San Francisco has a unique climate.
Practically anything that can grow can, grows there. It is bright
enough for plants that need a lot of sunlight, yet there is enough
precipitation for plants that need a lot of moisture.

It is not too hot, and it is not too cold. It stays almost the
same temperature all year. In short, it is the perfect moderate
environment.
San Francisco Flower and Garden Show
Because of that, San Francisco flower and garden shows are known
the world over. They have some of the best and brightest flowers,
the freshest fruits and vegetables, and the most impressive gourds
that you have ever seen.
Every garden and flower magazine profiles them each year, and
each year is better than the last. When you go to the flower and
garden show in San Francisco, is almost impossible to not become
obsessed with the idea of growing something on your own.
The plants look so splendid, after all, that how could you resist?
For my part, I simply couldn’t!
Starting your own flower and garden
Of course, reading a flower and garden magazine, or going to
a flower festival, is one thing. Starting one on your own is another.
The flower and garden magazines make it look so easy, but it
is not easy! Actually, I forgot how hard it was. I remember the
way that my flowers looked when they were in full bloom, but I
do not remember the amount of work that went into them.
Having a few scattered flowers and tomatoes is one thing, but
having a neatly groomed garden is another. I had such unrealistic
expectation from the flowers and gardens show that disappointment
was inevitable.
Nonetheless, after a few years I did have an impressive flower
and Garden display. I was growing plants from all over the world!
My own flower and garden
Some of the fruit and vegetables that I produce in my garden
have been eaten by my friends and relatives for a few years now.
I do not use any chemicals, so what I grow is chemical free and
they all taste so delicious.
I make a big effort to make sure they all grow well and the produce
on the family table is my proudest achievement.
The herbs, fruit and vegetables taste a whole lot better and
more fresh, as it was picked from the garden and cooked on the
same day.
I have now added herbs into my garden, to add more variety to
our family meals.
For backbreaking work and effort in the flower and garden area,
my reward is the produce that meets all my family requirements.
