Granite Slabs Blending With Your Decor
By Joel F Mornigstar
Not every homeowner thinks of granite slabs when they’re designing
their kitchen or contemplating some sort of home renovation. Yet
granite is such a strong material and there are so many beautiful
colors and patterns, so it’s surprising there isn’t more use of
this stone in home design.
However, the usage is growing, as people realize all the advantages
of using this material for things like kitchen countertops, bathroom
vanity tops, and other areas of the home that require surfaces
of strength and durability, along with beauty.
Shop Around For Granite Slabs For A Better Price
You might think that granite slabs are prohibitively expensive,
and unfortunately that may often be true. Yet it’s possible to
acquire slabs of this stone for less money if you look around
carefully.
If you check with home supply stores, you can find some slabs
that might have small flaws, such as chips in the surface. The
flaws might not even be visible, or would end up located in unseen
spots on the countertop.
Selling Old Inventory Cheaply
This might equate to a large markdown on the slab. You can also
ask suppliers when they may be changing inventory, because even
top granite blocks from old inventory will eventually be sold
quite cheaply, as the supplier changes old for new.
Keep your decor or your renovation plans in mind as you look
for these less expensive granite blocks and slabs, and you should
be able to find some that will work well with your colors and
design ideas.
Adding Unique Texture And Colors To Your Decor
What makes this stone such a striking design element, in addition
to the vaunted strength and durability, is that granite colors
are never exactly the same from slab to slab. Each piece will
add unique texture and richness to the look of your decor.
This stone is a great addition to many areas of the home, such
as with kitchen planning, as amazing sinks, back splashes and
countertops are all possibilities that will look awesome with
stainless steel appliances.
Taking Care With Your Granite Slab
If the granite slab you choose is in rough form, then of course
you’ll need to arrange for it to be sized, surfaced and polished.
You’ll also need to exercise great care in getting your purchase
home, though often the supplier will arrange for the delivery
and installation themselves.
If the stone is sealed properly, then cleaning your granite countertop
will not be much different from maintaining any other kind of
surface. But the manufacturer’s recommendations should always
be followed. If chosen and maintained carefully, granite slabs
can grace homes for many, many years.

Little Known Remodeling Facts....
Where can I find granite countertops locally?
The best source to find granite countertops
locally rather than purchase over the internet and have them shipped
in is to look at your local home improvement store. They may have
granite in stock and be able to sell it to you right then. But
depending on the amount, size and shape they may have to order
it specifically made for your kitchen.
This is one area where you have to know
exactly what you want and how much you will need before you place
your order. If you are looking for a single piece countertop you
will undoubtedly have to order it custom made which is going to
take time.
If you do not have a local home improvement
store that carried granite, you may want to get in touch with
a local contractor. Chances are you will need his or her help
anyway and they can give you advice on where to purchase your
countertops.
