Hammock Stands For Your Favourite Hammock

By Joel F Morningstar

Many people envision hammocks swaying in the wind while secured to a tree trunk or fence, but it’s best to use hammock stands. A hammock stand will give you a better anchor while still allowing you to take your hammock from your home to the cottage or campsite.

Choosing the right stand for the style of your hammock chair or swing is important for comfort and stability.

Choosing The Stand For Your Hammock

Purchasing the right hammock stand is as important as choosing the right hammock. Pick the wrong one and you may find your hammock unstable and not as comfortable as you would like. When taking a review your options and choosing a stand, consider durability, the material it is made of, size, and of course cost.

Some of the pricier hammock stands like the universal stand are very convenient, but some off the less expensive models will suffice. Before you make a purchase, be absolutely sure that you are getting the right size stand for your hammock and make sure the stand is made to handle a hammock of the length you desire so that it hangs on the stand neither too low or too high. To avoid any mistakes, look for hammock swings that come with a stand.

Better Stability WIth A Wider Base

While choosing a stand for any hammock type, think about how the hammock is hung and how long it is. Hammocks can be hung by either rings or spreader bars. Check your hammock before you buy a stand to make sure that you get the right design.

You should also think abut how often the hammock will be used and how much weight the stand will have to support. A wider base will give you more stability and support.

Read Instructions Carefully

Metal stands usually cost between $90 and $200, while wooden stands can range from about $400 to $600. When assembling your hammock, especially if it is a baby hammock, be sure to read the packaging and instructions carefully.

Metal is by far the most popular choice for stands because they are light, durable and easy to assemble. However, keep in mind that they can rust if they are left outside and aren’t cared for properly.

Stainless Steel And Wood Stands

To avoid this, look for stands made out of stainless steel. These last longer and little chips can be covered up with a dab of automotive paint. Stainless steel costs a little more, but it is money well spent. If you’re looking for a more rustic look, then wood stands are a great choice.

You can opt for natural wood, such as an oak hammock stand, or find those that are offered in colors that match any decor. Many even come with stunning designs and carvings.

Place Wood Stands Under A Canopy

Wood tends to be heavier than metal so this makes the stand more difficult to move and assemble, but the extra weight will make your hammock or chair more stable. If you prefer wood, then look for stands that are made of woods that produce natural oils.

This will protect them and keep them looking great. You can also choose varnished or pressure treated wood. Wood is not as durable as metal, so place them under a canopy or in a spot where they will stay as dry as possible.

Regular Maintenance Leads To Longer Use

To keep hammock stands looking great, take a little time for maintenance. When looked after properly, both metal and wood can last for several seasons. Regularly examine the joints to make sure that the bolts and screws haven’t come loose.

This is especially important if you regularly move the stand from location to location. Look for metal stands that are powder coated with a rust-proof paint for longer life. By properly maintaining your stand, you should be able to enjoy using it with your hammock for years.
