Hanging Baskets Nursery Landscaping Guide
Lush Beautiful Hanging Baskets
By Jennifer Dullard
Hanging baskets are a wonderful sight to behold. If a person
does a little research, they can learn how to create their own
hanging basket that can rival that of the local nursery. Instead
of buying a generic plant from the local discount store, a person
should use the following tips to create a beautiful and bountiful
hanging basket to be admired by everyone.
One of the first things to making a bountiful hanging basket
is to choose the right plants. By choosing the right type of plants
a person can create lush, beautiful hanging baskets. In order
to build garden perfect plants one should choose long-trailing
plants such as trailing petunias.
These only require top planting and are quite easy to take care
of. In order to accent long-trailing plants, a person can insert
short-trailing plants such as purple verbena into the sides of
the basket as well as the top to ensure a full looking flower
basket. This look will give a person a huge flower basket and
will wow anyone who sees it.
Choose The Right Potting Mix
Another thing that is critical for making bountiful hanging baskets
is to be picky about the potting mix that is used. Hanging baskets
are very difficult to keep moist once they dry out.
A way to ensure that this does not happen is to add humus based
potting mix to the regular soil that one chooses. Another good
tip for a hanging basket is to add a slow release fertilizer at
planting and this will help to ensure that these ornamental plants
thrive beyond what is expected.
Even though hanging baskets are easy to find out how to plant,
a few simple reminders will ensure that a person creates a beautiful
piece of nature for everyone that sees it to enjoy. Always leave
1 1/2" in the top of the container for a good water pool.
Leave A Little Space At The Top Of The Container
Since hanging baskets need water often, leaving a little space
at the top of the container for water is a good idea. Also when
watering remember to water until one can see water dripping from
the bottom of the container.
Another thing to remember that is crucial is use a good potting
mix and not potting soil. If a person follows these easy rules
for making gorgeous hanging baskets, then all will be awed by
the green thumb that the gardener has.

Little Known Gardening Facts....
I am not good with growing things. Is there an easy container garden that I can do?
The easiest container garden to have is an herb garden. Most herbs
require little maintenance and produce very readily. The best advice when choosing
which herbs to plant would be to take a look at your spice cabinet.
What herbs do you use the most? Dill, chives, rosemary, oregano
and parsley are very easy to grow and are inexpensive. The greatest
advantage to having an herb garden, besides the fresh herbs to
enhance your dining experience, is that different herbs can be
grown together in the same container. The important thing to remember,
if you cannot identify the herb by examining it, is to label what
herb you planted and what section you planted it in.
