Hot Pepper Plants Garden Nursery Landscaping Guide
Hot Pepper Plants Growing In Your Garden
By Suzzie T Franklin
Hot pepper plants are easy to grow in your garden. You can review
your options and grow a variety of peppers including hot and mild
peppers, as I have both in my garden, growing among the tomatoes,
cucumbers and all my other growing garden plants. I do not use
any chemicals, to keep my garden organic.
I create my own garden fertilizer using compost bins in my yard.
Any green waste, from my yard I collect and place it in the compost
bins. I initially started growing hot pepper plants using planters,
but have since moved them into my garden.
I heard stories that peppers were difficult to grow, but I was
lucky and did not have any problems in maintaining a successful
garden with my favourite organic produce in my backyard.
Growing Hot Peppers In Your Planters
It is true that there are many people in our society that only
like a little bit of heat in a meal now and then, but the ratio
of true connoisseurs to casual fans is really astounding. One
day, you are trying out a new hot pepper sauce and the next day
you are making your own. Pretty soon, your entire yard if filled
up with planters sprouting your own hot pepper plants.
For me, it started purely by chance. I was at the Farmer's market
and found a stall that was selling hot pepper seed. I had always
liked a little bit of spice, and I thought that it would be a
valuable addition to my culinary pursuits.
Habanero Plants With Moderately Spicy Peppers
I had wanted to start a herb garden for a while, after all, and
figured that there was definitely a place for hot pepper plants.
At first, I grew a couple of habanero plants. I figured that they
would be a great first hot pepper plant because they were only
moderately spicy, and very flavorful besides.
I acquired what my husband calls my “culinary death collection”
one hot pepper plant at a time. Once I saw how easy it was to
grow habanero plants, I wanted to get a jalapeño plant as well.
I saved my hot pepper seeds, using the best ones to grow new plants
and the other ones to cook with.
Made Special Concoctions
Soon I was using hot pepper plants in everything. I would use
them in chile, Mexican food, Indian food, and in cuisines where
they had no business at all. I even made special concoctions of
hot pepper plants to try to treat nasal allergies. That endeavor
was mildly successful, but it was definitely not worth the pain!
The problem with growing hot pepper plants is that it uses up
more space than you would think. The actual plants don't take
up that much space, and are easy to grow. To use them for food,
however, requires more work. Once you harvest your hot peppers,
you need to dry them.
This takes literally racks upon racks to do. Eventually, you
will want to get a hot pepper roaster as well. When I started
growing hot pepper plants, I did not think of it as a serious
hobby. This, however, is exactly what it has become.
Growing Plants For Your Own Fresh Produce
Apart from hot pepper plants, I now grow mild pepper plants,
to increase the variety in my garden. After I collect all my peppers,
I place them in jars, making my own varieties of pickled peppers.
I add cut cucumbers and unripened green tomatoes, with plenty
of salt and lemons from my lemon trees.
I make a number of jars, full of pickled peppers, that I give
some away to my neighbours, friends and relatives. I have separate
jars for hot peppers and mild peppers as some people do not like
hot pepper, while other people specifically request for hot peppers.
I now have people asking me if my pickled peppers are ready. I
seem to have built a reputation in my neighbourhood for quality
pickled peppers!
All The Natural Flavours With Garden Fresh Produce
Whenever we have a family get together, a social event or a dinner
party, there is always plenty of peppers and other produce from
my garden. I love garden fresh produce, as I can taste all the
natural flavours, as I can pick it and place it on my meals on
the same day.
It is so easy to grow so much of your own garden produce and
your family can enjoy the rewards of your efforts.
