Humidifiers Increase Moisture

By Joel F Morningstar

Most people find that they can live and work very comfortably in an environment that has a relative humidity level of 30 to 50 percent. There are many people who live in very humid parts of the country where they need to employ air dehumidifiers in order to make their home more pleasant and livable, while others need to review their options and increase the moisture content of the air to be comfortable. This can be particularly important during the winter months, thus humidifiers are terrific little appliances for infusing needed moisture into the atmosphere.

Air humidifiers are particularly helpful in climates that are very arid, hot and dry all year around. They also come in very handy during the winter months in colder climes when people seal up their homes tightly against the winter weather. Home heating systems have a tendency to make the air very dry and seem to remove every last drop of moisture from the atmosphere.

Boosting The Moisture In The Air With Humidifiers

If the air in a home is frequently under the level of 30 percent relative humidity, then there are a number of problems that can start to develop. These problems range from dry and itch skin, to itchy, burning eyes, to nasal passages that are dried out and can lead to nose bleeds, to any number of breathing problems, including asthma. These various symptoms and conditions can be eased by employing humidifiers to boost the moisture in the air.

While air humidifiers are very effective at reintroducing moisture into the air in a home, one of the things that is very important when using them, is making sure to clean the unit regularly. People who have trouble committing to a routine of cleaning and disinfecting the humidifier dehumidifier unit should think twice about even getting one.

Always Maintain Your Humidifiers

Humidifiers that are not cleaned and properly disinfected regularly will end up causing problems more serious than dry skin and itchy eyes. Introducing humidity into the atmosphere will allow mold and mildew to start to grow where it was not able to thrive in the previously dry environment.

However, keeping mold and mildew in check is a simple process if you keep to a regular maintenance schedule. Closely follow the cleaning instructions for the appliance that are provided by the manufacturer.

If you live in an area where you have to deal with high humidity in the summertime and yet need to boost the humidity in your home during the winter months, then you might want to look into buying a combination humidifier dehumidifier unit.

A Machine With A Humidifier And A Dehumidifier

This way, rather than having two separate devices, such a room dehumidifier or a portable dehumidifier, plus a humidifier, you can save money and space by having just one machine to take care of both air control tasks.

Recently, the manufacturers of air humidifiers have started to be more responsive to consumer complaints and suggestions for improvements. As a result, these days the devices are easier to fill, clean and maintain in general.

There are many models with various features to choose from and one of the more popular models, especially for those who work outside the home, is the model that features a programmable timer which will turn the unit on before arriving home so you can walk into a comfortable environment to enjoy for the evening.
