Lamps Lighting Compliment Your Decor
By Joel F Morningstar
When a person wants to improve the design and decor in a home,
they need to carefully consider the lamps lighting choices that
they make. The various types of lighting fixtures and lighting
accessories that are used in a space always have the potential
to dramatically affect the overall atmosphere that is created.
Lighting is not only essential to providing good functionality
in a room, it is also important in terms of how people will feel
when in the environment.
Lighting Effects The Mood And Feelings Of People In The Room
There is no question that lighting design has an enormous effect
on the mood, the feelings and the perceptions of the people who
are in the room, setting the stage for how the room will be used
and enjoyed.
Making the right choices in lighting fixtures to enhance the
use and purpose of a room does require a degree of a review your
options and deliberate choices, as well as a degree of knowledge
about the various types of lamps and fixtures available. There
are many types, as well as added features that one can choose
from.
Lamps Lighting Your Rooms
While some people like to have their light fixtures permanently
installed in ceilings and walls, there are a great many people
who still like the look and the functionality of having lamps
lighting in their rooms. Since the various types of table lamps,
floor lamps and desk lamps are not installed, they can easily
be moved about a space to accommodate changing lighting needs
and to compliment changes in decor and traffic flow.
When choosing the lamps to illuminate a given area, you first
need to be observant so that you can take into account what the
lamps are needed for and how the lamp lighting can best address
those needs. Consider what kinds of tasks or actions are typically
performed in each room and which types of lamps will best provide
the needed light to enable you to comfortably and safely carry
out those endeavors.
Lamps Provide The Light To Perform Tasks
In most cases, lamps are used in three general ways. First of
all, lamps provide the light that is needed to do certain specific
tasks, such as cooking, sewing, reading, homework, and the like.
The lamps that provide illumination for these kinds of activities
are usually called task lights and they need to provide a lot
of brightness so that people can easily see the objects they are
working with. Some task lights use 3-way light bulbs, which allow
the user to choose the best level of light for their specific
task.
Lamps Provide Ambient Lighting
The second main way that lamp lighting is used is to provide
ambient lighting, which is the general, overall light that illuminates
spaces and allows people to safely move about and observe objects
in the room, and see other people as well. Ambient lighting also
helps to create a mood for a room and the best types can be adjusted
with the use of dimmer switches so that the level of the light
can be modified.
The third way that various types of lamps lighting choices are
used is for creating accent lighting. Lamp fixtures that are specifically
intended for accent lighting are designed to give special attention
to specific objects in a setting. Examples of such accent lights
are often seen shedding light on paintings or sculptures, or are
used to highlight some architectural detail in a room. These days,
there are even some lamps which serve multi-functions and these
models can save the homeowner both money and space.

Little Known Home Lighting Facts....
When was modern lighting invented?
Thomas Edison is widely considered to be
the inventor of modern lights. Edison worked for many years and
spent over $40,000 trying to find the right filament to provide
the light source for his light bulb. Over two years Edison went
through 6,000 different types of filaments and conducted over
1,200 different experiments.
He found a small measure of success by
using a platinum filament but it was too costly and was not very
effective. It was not until he and his team used a carbonized
cotton sewing machine thread that the experiment resulted in success.
On October 19, 1879 Edison fired up the
light bulb and monitored it. Over 40 hours went by and the bulb
was still burning. In December of 1879 the invention was unveiled
in the New York Herald. Mass production of the electric light
bulb began in 1880 and the world has not been the same since that
time.
