Lawn Ornaments To Decorate Your Yard

By Joel F Mornigstar

Lawn ornaments can be placed in areas of your lawn to decorate your yard. Rather than just green grass everywhere, you can place outdoor furniture, centerpieces, a vegetable garden, an inground solar pool and even a fish pond.

One of your centerpieces may be a water fountain in the yard, and even another water fountain in your garden, blending in with the greenery of the growing plants in the garden. You may even place a stone walkway to the front door of your home, to add a little variation to the front yard landscape.

A lawn swing and play areas with set swings for your children, may be another idea. You want your children to step outside the house, away from television and computer games, and get their daily exercise in your yard. You may even place a basketball hoop with a net in your yard.

You can consider some of these ideas, to decorate the lawn area of the yard. You may want small changes over a period of time, taking into account your family needs and requirements.

Decorating Your Lawn With Ornaments

You should never over do it when you have a lawn and wish to have some ornaments to decorate the area. However, you should have some if you wish, but think about the ones you get.

The style is up to you, but you don’t want anything too outrageous that may make the neighbors pull their hair out. More importantly, you want things that are going to please you, but also things that are not going to disappear on you. Some learn this the hard way, I know that I did.

Beware Of Thieves Stealing Your Lawn Ornaments

I had just a few lawn ornaments a year or so ago, but that changed when a few of them were stolen. One in particular was something that belonged to my sister in law, who has now passed away. When I went outside and saw that it was gone, I was devastated.

It was metal, but the stand went straight into the ground. I should have realized that it would have been too easy to get out of the ground and that it was so pretty that there may have been someone who could not have resisted. I put the rest of my lawn ornaments away after that.

Weather Elements May Take Your Ornaments Away

Another problem with some types of lawn ornaments is that they can get picked up rather easily by the wind when bad weather is near. If they are not secure in the ground, they could fly off, and could even hurt someone when they land. If they are not heavy enough, they could also be broken by the wind.

Some could go so far that you may never see them again. This is a problem when strong thunderstorms or even tornados come through. If you have seen the wind pick up a small swimming pool that has water in it, you know the same could happen to anything else that is smaller.

Look For Hard To Move Lawn Ornaments

When thinking about weather or theft, there are a few things you can look for when you are buying your lawn ornaments. You can go with materials that are next to impossible to move either by person or wind. This might include stone or cement. You can also find some that have a spiral where they are inserted into the ground.

You will have a hard time getting them into the dirt, but remember that this means it would be just as hard for someone to get it out. That protects from wind, and no one stealing lawn ornaments is going to take the time because they fear getting caught. Nothing is perfect, but these suggestions can help.

Large And Heavy Centerpieces

As a further example, you can consider lawn ornaments like large and heavy centerpieces are hard to move. If you have a large water fountain in your garden, cemented together with heavy rocks, then this would be hard to move by wind or thieves.

Another example is an inground solar water pool. Now this would be hard to move. Just keep an eye on the furniture by the pool and on the patio. Rather than lawn ornaments, I have found outdoor furniture gets stolen or taken by strong winds than lawn ornaments.

I have recently moved to a new neighbourhood and none of my lawn ornaments have been stolen to date.

Little Known Landscaping Facts....

How do I decide which type to plant?
The type of plant you choose will depend on your climate and how much you want to water. It will also depend on how much sun your yard receives during the day. Some plants thrive in the shade while others will wilt.

For those who live in drought prone areas, they should consider planting hardy plants that require little water and actually help conserve the soil from erosion. Many people elect to have rock gardens and cactus if they live in desert climates.
