Metal Window Boxes To Decorate Your Home With Colour And Style

By Jennifer Dullard

Metal window boxes can add decoration, style and colour to your home. You may have white walls or just plain bricks for walls, by adding a few metal window boxes you are adding a little colour and interest along a featureless wall.

I have seen metal window boxes on houses in our street. They stand out from the other houses and add that welcoming colour to the home. It says to the people walking past the house, that people live in this house, we love our home and we want to make it look as good as possible by adding a variety of colours and decorating the wall with metal window boxes.

An Array Of Styles, Textures And Colours

Metal window boxes can instantly transform the look of the exterior of your home in no time at all. These items come in an array of styles and colors. You can be sure that you will easily find a flower box that suits the look of your home whether it is modern or traditional.

Flowers and plants bring so much life and color to a home. You really don’t have to stop your landscaping projects at your doorstep. Adding metal window boxes to your exterior decorating scheme will move the colorful plant display from the ground up creating depth and interest to your house.

The many colors and textures of plants and flowers are countless and you can be on your way to making wonderful designs out of these favorite natural elements. In addition the metal window boxes also have texture and interest as well. Choosing one that suits the style of your home is simple if you follow a few steps.

Consider the size and shape of the metal window boxes. Remember that most of these are created out of wrought iron and are arranged in a number of patterns and sizes. If you have a small home with smaller windows you really want to keep the metal window boxes simple in form and design.

Classic Window Box

Good choices for smaller homes include a lattice flower box or a classic window box. The lattice design is a simple checker construction that is not busy or overwhelming.

The container does camouflage the pots used to hold the plants so you may want to opt for the classic design that consists of a few clean lines and no patterns.

With the classic design the focus is on the plant holder. Many people like to use copper metal window boxes surrounded by the classic wrought iron holder.

It is important to note that the copper will turn green in a little while. Don’t despair. The green patina will protect the metal window boxes from the elements.

The Decorative Flower Box

There are many choices when it comes to the decorative flower box for larger homes. My favorite is the European window boxes because they use a lot of curves flowing lines in their designs.

Larger homes that boast bigger windows may want to add some more design and interest to their exterior. The more decorative metal window boxes are wonderful for added style and they will make the exterior appear cozy and more inviting.

I have a larger home, so I have installed a number of decorative metal window boxes holding a variety of flowers. Looking at my windows from the street, you can see the variety of colours made by the flowers in full bloom.

There is a sense of privacy when some of the view inside the house from outside the window, is hidden by the metal window boxes.
