Oriental Rugs To Decorate With Art
By Joel F Morningstar
To some, Oriental rugs are true pieces of art and rightly so.
A lot of work goes into making these very unique and individual
pieces. While they can add personality to a room as a floor covering,
they can also add charm when seen as a piece of art.
All of the intricate designs and patterns that are woven into
the rugs can simply draw you into the story that they tell and
provide you with a great conversational piece, when you are entertaining.
Different Designs From Different Regions
Oriental rugs from different regions carry very different designs.
Some connoisseurs can review their options and know where a rug
comes from by simply looking at the pattern that it carries. If
a rug has been made in India, then it will most often have lots
of floral designs. Yet, if the rug was created in China, then
you will see lots of very exotic patterns, such as dragons and
normally very large and wild looking birds.
While you may not care which design the rug carries, you will
most likely have a favorite once you have seen the different types
of rugs that there are. These beautiful custom carpets are truly
unique no matter where they are made.
Oriental Rugs Are Made With Looms
One would think that to make such an exotic Oriental rug, you
would need to have an expensive elaborate loom, yet this is not
the case. These fabulous custom carpets can be made with the simplest
and most basic of looms. The looms that are used to make these
rugs can be either vertical or horizontal.
There are three types of vertical looms; the tabriz loom, the
loom with rollers and the village loom. The simplest of these
looms is the village loom and it carries an upper and lower beam,
from which to weave the fabric. No matter which type of loom is
used, they all have one simple mechanism in common.
This mechanism lets the weaver divide up the wrap thread into
sets of two so they can be turned around or reversed after they
are placed through the weft. The weft is the matter of yarn which
the weaver draws under and over warp yarns to make the fabric.
While there are different ways to make these beautiful custom
carpets, most all of them employ the loom.
Creation Of The Rugs Takes A Lot Of Work
Most often, it is the beauty of Oriental rugs that catches the
buyers’ eye. While they may enjoy looking at the workmanship,
they may never think about all of the work that has gone into
the creation of the rugs. The truth is, making them can be a long
hard process, but most always one that is enjoyed by the weaver,
as it is a true art form.
If you are thinking about buying one of these custom carpets
to cover your living room flooring, or any other room, then stop
and think for a moment about all of the work and skill that has
gone into making them, thus allowing you to beautify your home.

Little Known Home Decorating Facts....
How long has carpet been around?
It may be hard to believe but carpets have
been around since the 2nd and 3rd millennium BC! The earliest
carpet that has survived the test of time is called the "Pazyryk
Carpet" and was found in Siberia in 1949. It dates back to the
5th and 4th century BC.
No one is quite sure who made the carpet
but there is speculation that either the Iranians or the Persians
created this masterpiece of woven fabrics. Knotted pile carpets
can be traced back to the 13th century but the best examples of
carpets come to us from the Turks who have perfected the art of
tapestries and carpets.
Most carpets today are made with synthetic
fibers and are done with a machine. But you can still find hand-made
carpets made of natural fibers. You can expect to pay more for
the natural fiber carpets that are hand made and stitched or woven
on a loom.
Rugs, lamps, pictures and throws can be overwhelming to someone
without decorating experience. Items that look great in pictures
seem to not go well with your furniture or vice versa. It takes
a bit of knowledge and creativity to bring together different
elements into one cohesive, beautiful design.
