Sheer Shades Garden Nursery Landscaping Guide
Sheer Shades Keeping Out UV Radiation
By Jon Kilts
Sheer shades are beautiful, practical and versatile and when
one is in the process of choosing new window blinds they should
definitely be on the list to be reviewed and considered as part
of a window treatment design plan.
These shades could be considered a hybrid because they are really
a cross between sheer panels, or cellular shades, and horizontal
mini blinds, combined into one great shade. Because of this they
are both elegant with the soft and warm look of sheer fabric,
but also durable and highly functional with an interior framework
of horizontal slats that provide structure and light control.
Sheer Shades Blocking Out The Sun And UV Radiation
Sheer shades are constructed with adjustable slats, or vanes,
which are held in the middle of two separate sheets of sheer material.
The integration of the vanes and the sheers makes for a very attractive
way to manage the amount of light that can enter from outside.
This is important for comfort and is most important in parts of
the country that get a lot of sun.
The UV light that emanates from sun light is responsible for
significant damage to carpeting, cloth covered furniture pieces
and wood furniture. Furniture exposed to UV light will exhibit
signs of the sun-fade syndrome, losing color and wood pieces become
dry and lifeless.
Total Privacy With A View Of The Exterior
Unlike traditional horizontal window blinds, these sheer vaned
blinds allow you to let significant amounts of light in while
allowing some view of the exterior surroundings through the sheet
material and yet providing total privacy. In this configuration,
with the blind down and the vanes open, you will be able to filter
out approximately 67% of the UV light rays that typically come
glaring through windows, even when not in direct sun.
With regular window blinds that have the vanes wide open, the
UV rays have very little to impede them from entering you home
and doing damage. Also, there is virtually no privacy with regular
blinds when the vanes are opened up.
When the vanes in sheer blinds are closed, approximately 99%
of UV rays are filtered out, giving an excellent level of protection
to your valuable furnishings, and providing near a black-out effect,
also making them a good choice for bedrooms.
Another advantage to this type of window blind is that when you
raise the shade, it retracts into the headrail valance and the
shade effectively disappears from view, leaving you with the maximum
clear and unobstructed view through the window.
Sheer Vertical Shades With Functionality And Privacy
Sheer vertical shadings are another variation of the sheer shade,
but combine the advantages of vertical window blinds along with
the benefits of the sheer cellular shades. The vertical version
of shaded sheers provides a more formal look that features contemporary
soft and attractive drapery and combines it with the unique functionality
and privacy aspects of vertical shades. These are often recommended
to be used in situations for taller windows and for sliding patio
doors, or with French doors.
Both the sheer horizontal shades and the sheer vertical shades
come in many different colors, textures and fabrics and because
of the soft glow that they give to any room are a tastefully classic
choice for almost any decor. They are also very versatile as they
easy to customize for unusual sizes of windows or unique shapes
of windows making sheer shades the best option in some situations.

Little Known Window Blinds Facts....
How do I measure for window blinds?
Window blinds are measured by height and
width. Most mistakes are made by not factoring in the hardware
that comes with the blinds. The hardware for installation is not
very thick but if the blinds are custom made, this must be taken
into consideration.
Most blinds can have length trimmed but
this is not so for width. Be certain of your measurements. Measure
the width and height measure the window at least three times.
If you have any doubt, ask someone else to take a measurement
as well. It is better to be safe than sorry.
