Soda Bottle Bird Feeder Garden Nursery Landscaping Guide
Soda Bottle Bird Feeder Allows You To Watch Birds In Your Yard
By Rodger G Allenby
Soda bottle bird feeder is one of the more ingenious bird feeders.
You can place bird seed inside a soda bottle, close the lid and
then place long sticks on the side of the bottle for the birds
to perch and then the bird will feed from holes on the side of
the soda bottle.
You can try and make your own soda bottle bird feeder or buy
a kit from a pet store. Make sure you hang the bottle high up
and away from predators, like cats. Ideally you should hang the
feeder from a strong thin rope, making it extremely difficult
for predators to attack feeding birds.
Bird Feeder Without A Pirch
My daughter brought home the same type of bird feeder that I
made when I was her age. It was a pinecone rolled in peanut butter,
and then rolled in bird feed. Though this is a neat idea, we noticed
that it really didn’t work.
Though the birds wanted the food, they really had nothing on
which to perch so that they could eat it. Had it been for hummingbirds,
it might have been okay. However, they don’t eat seed, and any
other bird that may have come along could not hover to eat the
food on the cone. When you want a craft to do with your children,
think about doing the soda bottle bird feeder.
Building A Soda Bottle Bird Feeder
When you start with your soda bottle bird feeder, make sure you
have cleaned all of the soda out of the bottle. You can let it
soak all night and then be sure to rinse with soap, and then rinse
until there is no trace of soap within.
Remember that this can take a while with such a small opening,
so take your time. Your bottle will be ready to make a soda bottle
bird feeder once you have allowed it to dry out completely. It
may take 24 hours to have that happen, depending on the humidity.
Find Examples Of Soda Bottle Feeders Online
You want to decide what type of soda bottle bird feeder you want
to make. Most are the same, but you can find examples online to
see which it is that you want to make. For the most part, the
seed is put in through the lid and the lid is closed.
Through the sides of the bottle should be long sticks so the
birds can perch, and then small holes that allow them access to
the seed. You also have to have a sturdy way to hang these feeders
so that they do not come down in the wind or when they are bearing
the weight of full seed and the birds that have come to feed.
Soda Bottle Bird feeders Instructions Or Buy As A Kit
If you want to be sure your soda bottle bird feeder is going
to be sturdy and built just right, you may find instructions online,
or even kits you can buy to make them at home. You may even want
to see if you can find some online that are already done and ready
to use. You can also find more expensive models that may look
just like the bird feeders that are made with a soda bottle.
These are for those that have great memories of such feeders
and would love to have one hanging in their yard for the sake
of nostalgia.
Preventing Attacks From Predators
You want to ensure these feeders are placed in a safe area, away
from predators, to prevent the birds from being attacked while
they are feeding. One of the safest areas, is high up on a tree,
with the bird feeder hanging from a thin, sturdy rope.
If you notice the birds are not eating from the soda bottle bird
feeder, then you can look to see if you can identify the birds
and then go online, to find out their choice of food. For example,
if you place bird seed and you see hummingbirds flying about,
then you need to place a hummingbird feeder. A hummingbird feeder
has sweet liquid for the hummingbirds to feed as they ignore the
bird seed, found in many bird feeders.
Doing a little research and watching the type of birds visiting
your yard, will help you place the correct bird feeder in the
yard.
