The Architectural Modern And Historical Designs
By James R Blunt
The architectural world has had its share of ups and downs. There
have been great contributions made in history and there have been
great tragedies that have taken away some of the most magnificent
examples of architecture the world has ever seen.
In each period of history there have been those architects who
struggled with adversity and have triumphed. The architecture
was realized and created even when other people swore it would
never happen. But with each success there have been examples of
failures or destruction of these magnificent works of form, function
and beauty.
The Great Wonders Of The World
The architectural significance of some monuments is not lost
on architectural students. Take for example some of the great
Wonders of the World. The Taj Mahal attracts millions of visitors
each year. People want to see how the great ruler built this monument
for his love.
Mount Rushmore stands as a reminder of great Presidents of the
United States and their contributions to the world and to our
country. These examples of architecture still remain even though
time works against them.
Destruction Of The Library Of Alexandria
But with the sweet comes the sour. Many incredible works of art
have been lost over the years. Mankind is the greatest destructive
force in the universe. The Library of Alexandria is a great example
from ancient times.
It is believed that Julius Caesar helped bring about the destruction
of the library when he set the Egyptian Fleet on fire in his conquest
and pursuit of Pompey. While the fire did not destroy all of the
structure, it did destroy over 40,000 scrolls and damaged the
structural integrity of the building.
The World Trade Towers, for many years, stood as one of the tallest
buildings in the world. Soaring to a height of 110 stories and
designed by Minoru Yamasaki, the architecture of the twin towers
was admired by students of the architectural world and for its
inspiration in a plethora of other buildings.
On September 11, 2001 the towers were brought down by an act
of terrorism. The world of architecture lost one of its greatest
examples in the Modern age of design.
Battling Mankind And Nature
The architectural world will always battle to keep its treasures
safe from mankind and nature. Architectural designers will never
be one hundred percent positive that their lifelong works will
stand the test of time and be safe. But they will keep trying
to make monuments for other people to look up to and study.
Yamasaki never thought terrorists would destroy his towers in
such an act of despicable violence, but that will not stop other
architects from trying to attain great heights again.

Little Known Architecture Facts....
Even though I do not have a degree, can I still design my own
home?
As long as your building is up to city and
state codes, you can design your own home. You do not have to
have a degree though certain aspects would certainly be easier
with a few classes.
Some people have built enough houses through
their carpentry work that they understand how to design houses
with the correct specifications in mind. You can always work hand-in-hand
with an architect to custom design your home if you are unsure
whether or not you can do it alone.
