The Design Of Your Home
By James R Blunt
You do not have to settle for a home that is less than what you
want. Many people think they cannot afford the design they dream
of when they opt to build. Many times, people will settle for
any house available and then decorate the interior to reflect
their personal style, because they think it is going to be too
much money for the architectural style they wish.
That is erroneous thinking. There are plenty of ways to keep
your budget from breaking the bank and still get a home you will
be proud to call your own. You can be the envy of your family
and friends if you do a little bit of research.
First Decide On A Budget And A Block Of Land
Before you begin, you must decide on what your budget will be
and have a parcel of land on which to build. Hiring a landscape
architect may not be in your budget, so planting shrubs, plants
and flowers may be something you have to put off on until later.
When you begin the actual building process there are some steps
that must be completed in the proper order to ensure that the
structure remains sound and strong. The foundation must be poured
first, then the wall beams, once erected, and the insulation must
be covered to ensure that rot does not take place in case of bad
weather.
Give Your Plans To The Builder
The design of your home begins when the builder takes the plans
and begins the building process. Most times he or she will give
you the option of what materials will be used to complete the
interior.
This is your opportunity to shine and make the home your own.
There are some great options when it comes to picking out suitable
finishes. For example, you may not be able to afford marble floors,
but you can get the same great look with stained concrete.
Cabinets are another great way to save money and give your home
a great look. Many people find recycled cabinets at discount stores,
refinish the interiors and then give them new fronts and new hardware.
The Look Of New Cabinets
You get to have the look of new cabinets but at a fraction of
the cost. While you are considering designs for the bathroom,
you can take a look at antique bathtubs and sinks. A refinished
bathtub, especially an old claw foot, gives a new home a unique,
distinct look.
You have a say-so in the design of your home. It is your money
and your have the last word when it comes time to begin construction.
Find an architect who is willing to work with you on the style
that best suits your budget and needs.
If you want an energy efficient home, then find an architect
and a builder who agrees with your philosophy and will work with
you to ensure that your goals are met. Your home should be your
sanctuary. Make sure that it is!

Little Known Architecture Facts....
What is architecture?
Architecture is a mixture of art and science.
Every home, office, shack, church and beautifully manicured lawn
all over the world has been affected by architecture. It surrounds
us each time we look around.
Even minimalist styles are all designed
by someone. Landscape architects design the land. Industrial architects
control those steel high rise buildings that soar over the horizon.
Your home which comforts you after a long day is part of the architects
vastness and limitlessness.
