Water Gardens Decorating Your Backyard Landscape
By Rodger G Allenby
Water gardens can help to improve the landscape in your front
or back yard. You can decorate your water garden with rocks, stones
and even placing a fountain or a small waterfall nearby. You will
also need to take steps to keep pests, like birds, cats and other
neighbourhood animals away from your landscape centerpiece.
Birds are the worst enemy of your water gardens as they like
to swoop down into your pond. Birds like egrets and osprey will
wait until you are sleep, or away from your garden, to dive down
into the pond and eat your fish.
You need to review your options and find ways to protect the
fish in your pond. One way, is to dig your pond deeper. Birds
want to stand in the water and catch their fish, and if you have
a deep pond, then it would be difficult for the birds to stand
in the water.
Your Fish Can Hide In Koi Castles And Fish-Safe Dyes
Another option is Koi castles, for your fish to hide. A further
option is fish-safe dye dropped into the water, making it difficult
for pests to recognise the fish in the water.
Small mammals like mice, cats and rabbits often go to the pond
for food, and can destroy the lining of the pool while they are
hunting their catch. Raccoons may also try to get to your fish,
but if the pond is deep, they will walk away, as they do not like
swimming.
Deterring Pests With A Motion Detector
A motion activated sprinkler system can help keep animals away,
as they are frightened and attacked with water, when they try
to get near your pond.
Another type of pest that will attack your water garden are bugs.
There are ways to prevent these aggressive garden pests from ruining
the look of your garden and the health of your fish. Aphids attack
water gardens, and are rather difficult to exterminate.
Organic Herbal Sprays
As aphids live on plants in the water garden, you can look at
using a strong hose on the pests. Another option, is to purchase
organic herbal sprays from a local garden nursery, to get rid
of the aphids.
You can find online resources you need to create a beautiful
water garden when you visit websites for Pike
Nursery. Alternatively, you can check out organic herbal pesticides
and natural water decor available in specialty stores like Whole
Foods Market and Trader Joe’s.
By keeping pests away, you will be able to enjoy the wonder of
your landscaping masterpiece, your water gardens.
